BUSINESS AMERICAN-ISRAEL Telrad Gives Royal Gift Telrad Telecommunications, a provider of digital telephone systems and one of Israel's largest telecommunications companies, recently gave King Juan Carlos of Spain a differ- ent type of gift — the gift of telecommunications. The gift, an advanced digital phone sys- tem, was presented to the king during his November visit to Is- rael, his first visit to the Holy Land as king. The advanced telephone sys- tem was presented to the King by Israel's President Ezer Weiz- man. The Christmas gift was given by Telrad as a goodwill gesture to demonstrate to Spain the quality and sophistication of Israel's rapidly growing high technology industry, already considered among the best in the world. "Relations between Israel and Spain have improved dra- matically during the past 10 years and Telrad is greatly hon- ored with the distinction of beign able to present a gift to the king," said Oded Korit- shoner, president of Telrad Telecommunications, Inc., the wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Telrad Telecommunications of Israel. "When a head-of-state makes an official visit to Israel, he or she is generally present- ed with a gift considered repre- sentative of Israel — such as a religious or archaeological arti- fact. Clearly, Israel has entered the "digital age." In addition to its well-estab- lished telecommunications in- dustry, Israel is highly advanced in computers, soft- ware, data communications, electronics, biotechnology and imaging technology. The coun- try's primary markets are in North America and Europe. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, Israeli companies also have been making studies as of late in the former Soviet Re- publics, Eastern Europe and the Far East. Founded more than 40 years ago, Telrad Telecommunica- tions is a major Israeli manu- facturer of telecommunications equipment, including digital telephone systems, integrated voice mail systems, PBXs and ISDN terminal equipment. The company, which had worldwide sales in 1993 exceeding $250 million, has a customer base that includes small, medium and large size businesses, pub- lic institutions, and telephone companies located in more than 30 countries on six continents. Since its first U.S. sales in 1978, Telrad U.S., headquartered in Woodbury, N.Y., has installed more than two million tele- phone stations.
