On March 5 at 8 p.m., the an-
nual Torah Fund event of Beth
Israel Congregation of Ann Ar-
bor will take place in the syna-
gogue's social hall, 2000
Washtenaw. The program will
be an evening of dramatic read-
ings by Betty Feldbin of New
York City.
Beatrice (Betty) Weiner Feld-
bin has been doing dramatic
readings in Yiddish of Sholem
Aleichem stories for over 30
years. She began by cutting
records for the Jewish Braille
Institute as part of their Record-
ings for the Aged Blind, a Talk-
ing Books Project. These records
were sent to old-age homes
throughout the country, and are
still used today.
The Ann Arbor reading will
be in Yiddish, but you don't
have to speak Yiddish to love it.
The reading will be preceded by
brief synopses of the stories in
English and an introduction to
the life and work of Sholem Ale-
ichem.
Proceeds will benefit the
Torah Fund of the Jewish The-
ological Seminary of America.
Tickets will be available at the
door. For reservations, call
Cathy Alfaro, 662-7487; or Beth
Israel, 665-9897.
