When talk show
hostess Leeza
Gibbons began
new show
last
month,
among her first
guests were Lori
and Steve Hartz
of Northville. "It
was very exciting
for us, and we were flown out to
Hollywood," said Mr. Hartz.
The young couple ap-
peared on the show to
discuss how to improve their
financial situation by elim-
inating debts. She is a piano
teacher, while he is an ex-
ecutive with the Jered
Galleria of Jewelry in Clin-
ton Township. Mrs. Hartz
read Mary Hunt's
newsletters "Cheapskate
Monthly" for advice and
started corresponding with
the author. Ms. Hunt sug-
gested the couple as a
success story for Gibbons'
show. On the show they were
surprised to meet Ms. Hunt
in person.
"It was a positive experi-
ence for such a negative
situation," said Mrs. Hartz.
They are still very careful
about money management.
Mrs. Hartz explained that
their financial status was
similar to being 400 pounds
overweight and losing only 100.
They are anticipating an-
other exciting event this spr-
ing when they will become
parents.
PAWNSHOP WEDDING
Sharon and Norman
Gornbein of Norman's
Jewelry & Loan in
Southfield were asked to be
witnesses at a wedding.
Their employees Nancy
Saches and Scott Affholter
met at work. The couple
Norman and Sharon Gornbein
even decided to get married
in the store when Sharon
said that she couldn't afford
to have everyone off the
same day. While a pawnshop
isn't the usual spot for a
wedding, Norman's Jewelry
& Loan isn't a typical
pawnshop either. Norman's
offers cash loans on jewelry,
artwork, antiques, collec-
tibles and automobiles.
