Michigan) in 1957. It was a
time when his expertise and
vision were needed.
"Sam Hechtman was an
outstanding leader during a
very demanding period in the
residential construction in-
dustry, when home builders in
the area were producing in ex-
cess of 40,000 new homes an-
nually," said Irvin Yackness,
executive vice president of the
Builders Association.
"He was always gentleman-
ly and extremely courteous to
everyone who had the privilege
of working with him.
"His many charitable en-
deavors are well chronicled by
others, but our memory of him
is of a very energetic leader
who had the ability to highly
motivate those around him
and yet remain compassionate
in all of his relationships."
Mr. Hechtman also served
as director, senior active di-
rector and life director of the
Builders Association, and he
received the Builders Associa-
tion of Southeastern Michi-
gan's Hall of Fame Award in
1986. In addition, he was a
member, director and hon-
orary life member of the Na-
tional Association of Home
Builders.
Survivors include his wife,
Lillian; daughters and sons-in-
law, Sally A. and Graham Or-
ley of Bloomfield Hills, Elaine
and Milton Conway of Birm-
ingham, Rhoda and Sidney
Rosenberg of Okemos; sister
and brother-in-law, Frances
and Isadore Solomon of South-
field; eight grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thurs-
day at Ira Kaufman Chapel. 0
