On Feb. 19 from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
the Metro Council of Hillel of
Metropolitan Detroit will pre-
sent the Saturday Night Fever
Disco Dance with Living En-
ergy featuring the sounds of the
70s and 80s as well as techno-
music and a light show.
There will be door prizes, a
prize for the best costume and
activities for those who would
rather not dance. The event will
be held at Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue. People are asked to bring
with a can of kosher food for the
Yad Ezra food pantry. For ad-
vanced ticket purchasing, call

Katzman or Neil Gottheil.
On Feb. 23, the Jewish Stu-
dents Organization/Hillel at
Oakland University will pre-
sent Richard Kokochak speak-
ing on "Graphology — The Art
of Handwriting Analysis" at
noon in the Oakland Center,
Lower Annex 1. Attendees may
bring samples of handwriting
to be analyzed. For information

Applications are now being ac-
cepted from college students by
the Harry and Sarah Laker Is-
rael Youth Scholarship Fund
for an academic year's study in
Israel.
The $2,500 cash award will
be given to the winning student
who can select from the follow-
ing outstanding universities for
his or her study: Bar-Ilan,
Haifa, Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion or
Hebrew University.
To qualify, the applicant
must be a resident of the Met-
ropolitan Detroit area currently
attending a college or univer-
sity in the United States and
must have applied to a school
of higher learning in Israel.
Applicants for the scholar-
ship, which is co-sponsored by
the Harry and Sarah Laker Is-
rael Youth Scholarship Fund
and Congregation Beth Achim,
are now available by calling

writing to the Laker Scholar-

U-M Hillel
Events Set

The American Movement for Is-
rael, Progressive Zionist Cau-
cus, and Jewish Feminist
Group will present a discussion
of "Women in Israeli Society"
Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Hillel.
Orit Kamir, the former attor-
ney for the Israel Women's Net-
work in Jerusalem, will discuss
the current status of women in
Israel.
The Jewish Lesbian, Bisex-
ual Gay Collective will have a
Gay Jewish Coffee Hour Feb.
16 at 7:00 p.m. at Zingerman's
Next Door, 422 Detroit.
The Big Chill will be a part
of the weekly study-break film
series at Hillel Feb. 16 at 9 p.m.
at Hillel.

Young Adults
Dance Planned

The Greater Lansing Jewish
Community will sponsor its first
Young Adults Dance Feb. 12 at
9:30 p.m. at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge
Road, East Lansing.
The evening will feature mu-
sic by Living Energy, door
prizes, refreshments and a cash
bar. Tickets can be purchased

DR, FELICE N. SIIECTER
of Farmington Hills has been
awarded a doctoral degree by
the Union Institute, a univer-
sity offering interdisciplinary
plans of study for mid-career
adults. Dr. Shecter's graduate
studies were completed in the
field of clinical psychology.

DR. BARRY S. PLATT of
Novi has been awarded a doc-
toral degree by the Union In-
stitute, a university offering
interdisciplinary plans of study
for mid-career adults. Dr. Platt's
graduate studies were com-
pleted in the field of clinical psy-
chology with a concentration in
neuropsychology and consumer
psychology.
