Detroit's Rabbi Cohen
Takes On Tufts Hillel

associate rabbi of
Hillel at Tufts
University in
Boston. "I was a student at
Oberlin, a liberal arts college,
when I took some courses and
became interested in Jewish
feminism," said Rabbi Cohen.
She studied at the
Reconstructionist Rab-
binical College near
Philadelphia and was or-
dained in 1993. She is very
excited to keep the Tufts
Hillel flourishing, in a uni-
versity where almost one-

Rabbi Cohen is the
daughter of Lorelei and
Norton Cohen of Bingham
Farms. She is a graduate of
Temple Israel and Roeper
High School. Her roommate
in Boston is Adele Lewin,
also a former Detroiter.

SINGING SOIREE
Marci and Marvin
Shulman of West Bloom-
field recently hosted their
annual escape from winter
with a musical soiree. More
than 90 guests participated
by dressing in Disney
costumes for a tribute to
animation. Marci
Shulman, as Snow White
began the evening with ver-
sion of "Be Our Guest." A
.parody written by Marlene
of the guests' children, also
sang some Disney tunes.
Larry Lawson, a.k.a.
Wendell Led Better, the
radio personality, made a
special appearance. Henry
Shevitz and Scott
Stern provided the piano
music.
OSCAR NIGHT
Saks Fifth Avenue will pre-
sent fashion designer Oscar
de la Renta to benefit the
Michigan Opera Theatre
6:30 p.m. March 8 at the
Troy store in the Somerset
Collection. The evening will
include . a strolling supper,
reception, fashion show and
afterglow. Pianist Pierre
Fracalanza will provide the
musical entertainment.
