Synagogues

The mens' club of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will celebrate
Men's Club Shabbat and honor
Arnold S. Michlin during ser-
vices and at a luncheon follow-
ing on Feb. 19.
Mr. Michlin's activities in the
community and in the mens' club
have been extensive. Since
1946, when he founded "Mate-
rials for the People of Palestine,"
he has been involved with B'nai
B'rith where he has served as
president of the Metropolitan
Detroit B'nai B'rith Council the
Detroit Action Committee for
Soviet Jewry, co-founder of
American Arab and Jewish
Friends and is currently presi-
dent of Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies. In
the men's club, he is chairman
of the breakfast seminar series.
There is a charge for the lun-
cheon. Call the synagogue, 357-

Jewish History
Study Session

On Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. the
Midrasha Center for Adult Jew-
ish Learning will present a text
study session featuring Rabbi
Tsvi Blanchard of the New
York-based CLAL - the Na-
tional Jewish Center for Learn-
ing and Leadership, as part of
a continuing series titled "Turn-
ing Points in Jewish History."
Rabbi Blanchard's subject
will be "The End of the World."
He will discuss the Hasmonean
dynasty and the oppressive
Roman occupation that followed
it.
There is a charge for this
study session, and pre-regis-
tration is required. Registrants
will receive study materials pri-
or to the program date, which
they will be asked to read be-
fore class.
Midrasha's CLAL series is
open to any adult learner who
is not already studying with
CLAL under the auspices of the
Jewish Federation of Metro-
politan Detroit. Other session
dates, topics, and speakers in
Midrasha's 'Turning Points in
Jewish History" series are:
April 7, "Power in Powerless-
ness," taught by Rabbi Brad
Hirschfield; May 4, "Dhimmi or
People of the Book," taught by
Dr. Charles Raffel; and June 8
- "Crusades and Their After-
math," taught by Rabbi Reuven
Kimelman.
