Ferguson Awarded
Israeli Contract

Scotland's Ferguson Ship-
builders has won its case
against Israel Shipyards and
has been awarded the tender to
build two tugboats for the Israel
Electric Corporation, the
Supreme Court ruled.
A three-judge panel ruled
against Israel Shipyards' latest
appeal, which asked the court

to overturn a Tel Aviv District
Court decision allowing the
Scottish firm to sign a contract
to supply the boats.
The court said Mr. Fergu-
son's final bid price of $13.6 mil-
lion will be the condition for the
contract to be signed between
the two parties.

Tel Aviv (JTA) - Three
residents of the West Bank
settlement of Kiryat Arba
were injured when gunmen
riddled their car with
machine-gun fire from a
passing car.
The three were shot at
shortly after noon as they
were driving near the near-
by Arab town of Halhoul.
The wounded men, two of
them new immigrants from
the former Soviet Union,
were rushed to Hadassah
Hospital in the Ein Kerem
section of Jerusalem, where
they were reported to be in
fair condition from chest

wounds.
Senior Israel Defense
Force officers, who rushed to
the scene shortly after the
shooting, ordered a wide-
spread search and clamped a
curfew on the entire area,

which includes the city of
Hebron.
IDF officials said the at-

tackers had riddled the car
with some 20 shots from

Kalachnikov assault rifles
and Uzi submachine guns.
In a leaflet found at the
scene, which was apparently
thrown from the attack
vehicle, the Izz a-Din al-
Kassem brigade of the
Islamic fundamentalist
movement Hamas claimed
responsibility for the
assault.
According to the leaflet,
the attack was intended as
an act of retaliation for the
recent deaths of four mem-
bers of Hamas who were
killed by IDF forces in
Hebron and the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, in another in-
cident, Israeli border police
mistakenly shot and wound-
ed a 10-year-old Arab girl
during a car chase in the

Gaza Strip.
The girl, who was travel-
ing in another car than the
one being chased, was re-
portedly hit in the face by
three bullets and was taken
to a hospital within Israel. ❑
