Have You Heard?

Hearing Aid Specialist

WHAT'S ALL THE NOISE?

The bad news, according to the National
Institute on Deafness and Other Communi-
cation Disorders (NIDCD), is that about 28
million people in the U.S. are afflicted with
hearing loss. An estimated ten million of these
hearing impaired people can attribute their
loss to exposure to loud sounds. The good
news is that noise-induced hearing loss is
preventable. If a person experiences ring-
ing in the ears (tinnitus), hears sounds as
muffled or distorted, or feels pressure or full-
ness in the ears, it is a sign that he or she is
listening to sounds that are too loud. Cord-
less phones (which ring at 140 decibels) and
personal stereos with headphones (which
produce sound levels up to 120 decibels) can
produce hearing loss with one exposure.
These are losses that can be prevented.

Give us a call to learn more about the
ways in which you can protect your precious
hearing. If you suspect that you may have in-
curred hearing loss, visit us at LUCAS-CRUZ
