gables and a look of delightful
serenity.
The earthy interior captures
the mood of one of Italy's most
beautiful towns, Cortina D'Am-
pezzo . . . amid warm Ital-
ian/French country decor, brick
fireplace, cane-backed chairs,
leather booths, easy lighting,
etched glass with leaded de-
signs in little windows, white
linen tablecloths and napkins,
etc.
Its own bread is made on the
premises and the menu is con-
sidered only as a guide to the
authentic Italian dishes that
Cafe Cortina likes to prepare
. . . especially on three-to-four-
day notice . . . The wine list is
large and drinks like flaming
Sambucca "Con de Mosca" or
a glass of digestino di Averna
liqueur are choice.
Some people may tend to for-
get about Cafe Cortina . . . but
not for long . . . At one time, this
restaurant with such an appe-
tizing look was considered a
secret dining
jewel . . . and
there are still
those who
guard their
"discovery" with
somewhat of a
reverent secre-
cy.
Rina calls
the food at Cafe
Cortina "North-
ern Italian with
a southern ac-
cent" . . . The
preparations of
Paul Tootikian
and his staff are
considered by
those with food
knowledge as
classic traditional Italian, which
takes in a wide area . . . Many
people who have visited Italy
come back here and head for
Cafe Cortina ... Paul's food has
a touch of where they came
from.
Many memorable occasions
have been enjoyed at Cafe Cor-
tina . . . In December, it had the
honor of being selected by Mit-
subishi Motors for their annual
Christmas party here . . . In
California, Chef Wolfgang
Puck's Spago was selected .. .
and in New York it was Il
Cortile . . . That Cafe Cortina is
well-known in regions other
than Michigan is evidenced by
corporate requests for parties
in this area.
And it has gained much note
