Ergometer

with Jews without coming
close to satisfying them as to
his sincerity, added his own
remarks to the stew.
"We know that the Jews
are the most organized, rich
and powerful people, not
only in America, but the
world," he reportedly said.
"They're plotting against us
even as we speak."
And in a clear rebuff of the
calls to distance himself
from the Kean College
speech, Mr. Farrakhan re-
portedly said people were us-
ing Mr. Muhammad's words
against him to "divide the
house," and that Mr. Far-
rakhan's enemies "want to
use some of our brothers,
and some of our brothers are
willing to be used" to curry
favor.
ADL National Director
Abraham Foxman, who had
expressed hope on the eve of
Mr. Farrakhan's speech that
the minister would take the
opportunity to renounce an-
ti-Semitism, said afterward
in a statement that Mr. Far-
rakhan's "bigotry and con-
spiratorial charges continue
the grim and shameful pat-
tern he has maintained for
years."
Mr. Foxman added that
ADL "is dismayed, but hard-
ly shocked, at this ongoing
display of hatred by a dema-
gogue whose message de-
serves the strongest repu-
diation by all decent Ameri-
cans." 0

When the Ergometer was
first introduced, it was used
primarily for rehabilitation.
For years, physicians have
prescribed execiseon an
Erogometer to their patients.
This is because the
Ergometer accurately estab-
lishes and measures the
amount of workload during
your exercise program. Now
the Ergometer has found its
way into millions of homes.

Nazi Ally Dies
In New York

New York (JTA) — Mikelis
Kirsteins, a Utica, N.Y.,
man accused of assisting the
Nazis in murdering 30,000
Jews in World War II Lat-
via, died in a hospital
Wednesday, before the U.S.
Justice Department could
order his deportation.
A deportation hearing had
been postponed indefinitely
since 1991, when Mr. Kirs-
teins suffered a stroke.
Mr. Kirsteins, 77, was a
member of the Arajs Kom-
mando, a notorious Latvian
killing squad.
In testimony told to the
Justice Department's Office
of Special Investigations in
1987, Mr. Kirsteins ad-
mitted that he aided the
Nazis by patrolling an area
in which Jews were being
shot, but said that he never
pulled a trigger himself.
Mr. Kirsteins had been liv-
ing in the United States
since 1956, but agreed to
relinquish his citizenship in
1991 in a settlement with
OSI.
