On your wedding day, all eyes are really on
you. What's more, your wedding-day look
will be immortalized in photos and on video-
tape.
So, one more important thing to do in be-
tween choosing the dress of your dreams and
finding the right caterer, is to plan your make-
up and hair.
Simplicity and elegance are keys to being
a beautiful bride.
If you're not a wizard with a mascara wand,
get advice. Make a few appointments with a
makeup artist for pointers, or even have some-
one do your makeup on the big day.
Also plan your makeup with photos in
mind. For color photos, makeup should be
subtle and natural; avoid frosted eyeshadow
or lipstick.
For black-and-white photos, again, keep
color natural, and make sure makeup is well
blended. Avoid red lipstick, which pho-
tographs black.
Try this general advice from Bride's and
Your New Home magazine:
* Use a lash curler to open eyes.
* Wear waterproof mascara — in case you
shed a few tears of joy.
* Groom eyebrows by shaping them with
shadow and keeping them in place with clear
mascara.
* Use an oil-free matte foundation (to re-
duce shine), and match the color to your neck
tone.
* The week before the wedding, avoid new
skin-care products, cosmetics, facials and hav-
ing eyebrows tweezed or waxed. You don't
want to do anything that might cause your
skin to react badly.
Likewise, you don't want to make any dras-
tic changes in your hairstyle or color too close
to the big day.
Instead, discuss with your stylist what look
you want and make any changes well in ad-
vance. You may want to splurge on a soft per-
manent or face-framing highlights.
Its also smart to make an appointment with
your stylist on the morning of the wedding to
have your hair styled and the headpiece put
in place. Brides with longer hair may want
a sleek chignon or an elegant French twist.
Finally, don't forget that your hands will be
in the spotlight. Consider having regular man-
icures (either from a pro or at home) in the
months leading up to the big day.
Even brides who prefer to wear their nails
short will still want them to look neat and
groomed. I
