IT'S
COMING...
Jewish people the idea of the
one God of righteousness and
holiness. This is how God be-
came known to mankind.
We are a chosen people, but
chosen for others, not for our-
selves. Ours is not a belief in the
superiority of the Jewish peo-
ple, but a belief in the superi-
ority of Judaism which is an
entirely different matter. The
religious idea is the all impor-
tant issue, not the nation. Not
only does the concept of cho-
senness involve no Jewish su-
periority, it does not give Israel
a monopoly of God's love and
it does not imply the rejection
of mankind.
The mission of the Jew has
not been completed. The fun-
damentals of the Kingdom of
God have not as yet been es-
tablished. Justice, peace and
righteousness are not the real-
ity of our civilization.
From our earliest days, we
have said to the world, "You can
have our God; it's us you can't
have. Our God is a Universal
God; we are a particular people.
It is not Jewish dominion we
seek, but rather the sovereign-
ty of the Almighty."
We are here not to make con-
certed efforts to win others to
our faith. We are here to teach
the world by precept and ex-
ample that God's work is not
done and therefore, neither is
ours.

Adat Shalom
Music Study
Adat Shalom Synagogue will
host a music study series on
three Wednesday evenings in
March.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. each
evening, Cantor Howard Glantz
will take a look at three differ-
ent areas of Jewish music. On
March 2 he will focus on "Shab-
bat Melodies." "Performance
and Discussion" is the topic set
for March 9. Both of these pro-
grams take place at the syna-
gogue.
On the final Wednesday,
March 16, Cantor Glantz and
his wife, Dayna, invite members
to their home to take a journey
through recorded Jewish music
in "From the Victrola to the
CD." Reservations for this
evening are required. Please
call Heather Ferrant, 851-5100,
no later than March 9.
The series is sponsored by
the Synagogue's Adult Study
Commission. ❑
Peace cannot be kept by
force. It can only be achieved
by understanding.
