Young Adult
Film Series
The Volunteer Network of the
Jewish Federation Business and
Professional Women/ Women's
Division has scheduled several
opportunities this winter for vol-
unteers to assist human service
agencies in the metropolitan De-
troit area.
On Feb. 13, volunteers will
plan a Valentine's Day party and
play games with mothers and
children who have been victims
of sexual assault or domestic vi-
olence at HAVEN (Help Against
Violent Encounters Now) Coun-
seling Agency. Participants will
meet at 12:15 p.m. at the Max M.
Fisher Building and carpool to
the site.
Volunteers will celebrate
Purim with residents of the Har-
riett and Ben Teitel Jewish Fed-
eration Apartments in Oak Park
6:15-9:30 p.m,. Feb. 22. The pro-
gram, which is open to families
with children, will include a tour
of the facility and a chance to
make friends with residents.
On March 14, the Volunteer
Network will join JARC, the Jew-
ish Association for Residential
Care, for a movie night with res-
idents ofJARC homes. Partici-
pants will meet at 6:30 pm. at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center and carpool to the pro-
gram.
Volunteers will return to Tei-
tel Apartments March 17 to par-
ticipate in community-wide oral
history project by interviewing
residents about their memories
of World War II. Volunteers flu-
ent in Hebrew or Yiddish will be
able to record the memories of
residents who have have come re-
cently from the former Soviet
Union.

For Sasha, a coming-of-age sto-
ry of three Frenchmen who
travel to Israel in search of a
childhood friend, will be shown
by the Young Adult Division of
the Jewish Federation and
Metro Detroit Hillel 7:15 p.m.
Feb. 3 at Oakland Community
College's Orchard Ridge Cam-
pus in Farmington Hills.
The men discover their friend
at Kibbutz Yardena during the
drama of the Six-Day War.
They discover that the pretty
girl who left France two years
previously now is a beautiful
woman, a farmer and a soldier.
The series will continue with
"A Power of One 7:15 p.m. Feb.
15, at the Birmingham Temple.
The series will conclude March
13 with The Jungle Book.
There is no admission charge
for children to the 1 p.m. show-
ing at the Maple-Drake Jewish

Plan Assistance
Meet Legislators
At Reception
The public is welcome to attend
a reception for Michigan legisla-
tors hosted by the Michigan Jew-
ish Conference Feb. 8 from
5:30-7:00 p.m. at the City Club in
Lansing.
The reception will provide a fo-
rum for interaction between
members of the statewide a Jew-
ish community and state legisla-
tors and officials. The Detroit
community is represented at the
conference by Dr. Conrad Giles,
serving as the Michigan Jewish
Conference president; and
Ronald Klein and Kathleen
Strauss, as members of the board
of directors.

Homeowners
Workshop Set
Homeowners are invited to par-
ticipate in a home improvement
workshop series Tuesdays, Feb.
8-March 15.
The 6:30-9 p.m. program,
which is sponsored by the
Neighborhood Project, NBD
and the city of Southfield, in-
cludes training on plumbing,
weatherization techniques, win-
dows, electrical repair and plas-
tering.
Sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan De-
troit, the Neighborhood Project
aims to enhance the vitality and
growth of the neighborhoods of
Oak Park and Southfield. It
works closely with those mu-
nicipalities and reaches out to
the business community and
other local organizations.
The project, which assists
home buyers in locating in Oak
Park and parts of Southfield,
also encourages residents to re-
main in the community by en-
hancing their houses with
programs such as the home im-
provement seminar.
Registration is required for
the workshop series, which is
open to the public. Space is lim-
ited, and there is no charge. To
