screenplay, which was based
on the Keneally novel.
Mr. Lustig, a survivor of
Auschwitz, said that
"during my stay in the con-
centration camp, every time
somebody died and every
time someone was hanged in
front of us, they all said one
thing: 'Don't forget us. If you
survive, tell the world our
story of how we died.'
"I am very grateful" that
this film fulfills "my obliga-
tion to all the people who
died in he concentration
camps," Mr. Spielberg said.
The youthful director and
producer also paid tribute to
Poldek Pfefferberg, one of
the so-called "Schindler
Jews," who in his postwar
career as Beverly Hills busi-
nessman Leopold Page per-
sisted until Mr. Schindler's
story was shared with the
world.
Mr. Page captivated Mr.
Keneally with the story as
he waited in Mr. Page's lug-
gage store while waiting for
a delayed flight home to
Australia.
In addition to the three
awards given for Schindler's
List, awards were won by the
neurotic Jewish television
writer and stand-up come-
dian Jerry Seinfeld for his
quirky weekly television
series in which he plays
himself.
Mr. Seinfeld won a Golden
Globe as best actor in a
situation comedy and the
NBC series was chosen as
the best comedy series for
1993.
The award for best suppor-
ting actress in a television
series went to Seinfeld co-
star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Other winners included
Bette Midler for her role in
the television film Gypsy
and Winona Ryder as best
supporting actress in the
feature movie The Age of In-

barked on a state visit to
Turkey, the first by an
Israeli president.
During the visit, he will
meet with President
Suleiman Demirel and
Prime Minister Tansu Ciller

tion with Turkey.
