News Israel, U.S. Commission Jerusalem (JTA) — In a move timed to coincide with the visit here of the U.S. commerce secretary, Israel and the United States have signed an agreement estab- lishing a joint science and technology commission that aims to create high-tech jobs in both countries. The joint commission fulfills a promise President Clinton made when he met with Prime Minister Yit- zhak Rabin in March 1993. Representing the United States at the signing ceremony was U.S. Com- merce Secretary Ron Brown, who was on a seven-day trade mission in the Middle East intended to encourage the peace process. The technology commis- sion is being seen here as an important reflection of econ- omic cooperation between the two countries, as well as one of the fruits of the re- gional peace process. The goals of the new body are to encourage joint high- g technology industrial pro- jects; to encourage scientific exchanges between univer- sities and research institu- tions. ❑ YOU'RE LOOKING ATA LETHAL WEAPON. Foods that can load the blood with cholesterol, which can build up plaque in their arteries, increasing their risk of heart attacks and threaten- ing their lives. So next time you pick up a fork, remem- ber to handle it as you would any other weapon. For self-defense, not self-destruction.
