Now In Michigan

hard to get the word out
on a not-so-known, yet
not-so-new political ac-
tion committee. The Detroit Free
Press librarian is determined to
boost membership in JAC, an
acronym for Joint Action Com-
mittee for Political Affairs.
This PAC is one of a kind for
Jewish women. Different from
EMILY's List, which raises
money for Democratic, pro-
choice women, and WISH, the
GOP counterpart, JAC com-
prises Jewish women who raise
money for pro-Israel, pro-choice
U.S. Senate and House candi-
dates (male and female in both
Republican and Democratic
parties) who support the sep-
aration of church and state.

with a domestic conscience," Ms.
Blechman says.
Like the two other women's
fund-raising outfits, JAC mem-
bership costs $100. Each mem-
ber is required to give $25
during each election cycle to two
candidates supported by the
PAC

months to raise money for his
re-election bid this fall.
Based in Highland Park, Ill.,
JAC began in 1984. The Michi-
gan group was active years ago,
then suffered a lull. It was re-
activated in 1992 during the his-
toric Year Of The Woman.
"This gives me more of a
voice," Ms. Blechman explains.
"I am very concerned about is-
sues that affect me." ❑
