winter coats. Jewish con-
gregations heard about
the disaster during Shab
bat services and responded
to the need. Project Achim,
an Oak Park-based coalition of
Orthodox Jewish groups, is ac-
cepting con-
tributions to its special "Fire
Fund," and the Berkley Public
School District is collecting do-
nations.
"This was definitely a com-
munity-wide effort," Ms. Polk
said.

up a special fund for fire vic-
