Women Sought
For Phonathon
Women can do a mitzvah for
the community when they vol-
unteer and make a pledge to
the 1994 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign during Phonogift, the ma-
jor Campaign phonathon of the
Women's Division of the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
Calls will be made 9 a.m.-3
p.m. Jan. 16, 3-9 p.m. Jan. 17
and 3-9 p.m. Jan. 24 from Fed-
eration's Max M. Fisher Build-
ing. Volunteers will reach out
to more than 4,000 Detroit-area
women during the appeal.
The Campaign, Detroit Jew-
ry's major fund-raising appeal,
benefits thousands of our peo-
ple through 60 beneficiaries lo-
cally, overseas and in Israel.
Among the local agencies that
benefit from the Campaign are:
Agency for Jewish Education,
Fresh Air Society, Hebrew Free
Loan Association, Jewish Com-
munity Center, Jewish Com-
munity Council, Jewish Family
Service, Jewish Federation
Apartments, Jewish Home for
Aged, Jewish Vocational Ser-
vice, Resettlement Service,
Sinai Hospital.
On Super Sunday, Jan. 23,
hundreds of volunteers will
make calls asking their friends
and neighbors to help their fel-
low Jews in need here and
around the world. Federation's
Young Adult Division will hold
its phonathon 6 p.m. Jan. 23,
and organizations and congre-
gations are invited to partici-
pate Jan. 17-20. Volunteers are
welcome.
Throughout Super Week '94,
contributors to the Campaign
will have an opportunity to do
a double mitzvah: Donors will
be asked to increase their gifts
to the Campaign and make a
matching gift to the Operation
Exodus II campaign for the res-
cue and resettlement of Jews
from the former Soviet Union
and Ethiopia. Contributors to
the Operation Exodus cam-
paign will have his or her name
inscribed in a commemorative
Scroll of Honor, documenting
our community's role in this his-
toric event.

B'nai Moshe
Sisterhood Plans
The Sisterhood of Congregation
B'nai Moshe will have a light
dessert and book review 1 p.m.
Jan. 17 at the synagogue. Rab-
bi Elliot Pachter will review To
Life by Rabbi Harold Kushner.

The sisterhood will host Sis-
terhood Shabbat Jan. 22. Ser-
vices will begin at 9 a.m. and
many sisterhood members will
participate, including President
Sharlene Unger. During ser-
vices the past presidents of sis-
terhood will be honored.
A kiddush/luncheon spon-
sored by the. sisterhood will fol-
low the service. Following
lunch, the speaker will be Judge
Susan M. Moiseev, 46th Dis-
trict Court, who will speak on
"A View From the Bench — A
Jewish Perspective." Judge
Moiseev has served as district
judge since 1986, when she was
appointed to the bench by Gov-
ernor James. Blanchard.

The sisterhood will present
its first Sunday morning "Eye
Opener" 9:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at
the synagogue. A continental
breakfast will be served at no
charge.
Rhonda R. Brown, counselor
at Oakland Community Col-
lege, and Arlene Frank, pro-
gram coordinator at Oakland
Community College, will com-
ment on "A Woman's World."
They will examine some of the
resources and programs avail-
able to women.

Glennwood Plans
Fitness Event
Fitness and Fun will be the
theme of the next general meet-
ing of the Glennwood Chapter
of Women's American ORT,
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19.

my Prentis Morris Jewish Com-
munity Center.
A tour through the new
Health Club facilities will be led
by Sue Miller, director. Com-
fortable clothing and gym shoes

Biblical Women
Course Set
Elissa Berg, religious school di-

lead a series of discussions ti-
tled "Bringing Biblical Women
to Life" 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19, 26
