Music and art will be featured
at the January progams of the
Beth El Middle Years Group
and the Beth Elders. The Acco-
lade, an award-wirming Sweet
Adelines Barber Shop Harmony
Group, will entertain at the 1
p.m. Jan. 16 program hosted by
the Middle Years Group. The
program will be preceded by
cake and coffee at 12:30 p.m.
This afternoon of old-time
tunes, popular songs and a sing-
a-long is open to the public with-
out charge.
On Jan. 18, the Beth Elders
will host a noon luncheon fea-
turing Esther Tamoff Cooper of
the Speakers Bureau, Detroit
Institute of Arts. Ms. Cooper,
an active volunteer at the DIA
since 1978 and member of its
Speakers Bureau since 1981,
has taught courses in Jewish
Art at Oakland Community
College and the Midrasha. She
holds an Associate Degree in
Arts from Oakland Com-
munity College. She will speak
on "Marc Chagall and the Jew-
ish School of Paris." There is a
charge for the luncheon; reser-
vations are necessary.

Elderhostels
At Butzel

The Fresh Air Society and the
Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will offer eight
week-long Elderhostel pro-
grams from Sunday to Friday,
beginning April 17, May 22,
June 12, June 26, July 10, July
24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21. The
programs are held at Butzel
Conference Center. The food
service is glatt kosher.
Three academic topics are
offered each week. The faculty
includes instructors from the
University of Michigan, Michi-
gan State University, Eastern
Michigan University, Lawrence
Technological University, the
Midrasha Center for Adult Jew-
ish Learning, and Akiva Day
School. Evening activities also
reflect Jewish themes.
Elderhostel, Inc. is a nation-
al non-profit organization which
sponsors residential academic
programs around the world for
people aged 60 and over. Those

Deadlines

The normal deadline for
local news and publicity
items is noon Thursday,
eight days prior to issue
date. The deadline for birth
announcements is 10 a.m.
Monday, four days prior to
issue date; out-of-town obit-
uaries, 10 a.m. Tuesday,
three days prior to issue
date.

All material must be type-
written, double-spaced, on
8'/2 x 11 paper and include
the name and daytime tele-
phone number of sender.
