Adat Shalom Synagogue will
launch its 12th annual film se-
ries, "Truth Is Stranger Than
Fiction," Jan. 9, at the syna-
gogue. The series opens with
Angry Harvest, the first of three
films by screenwriter and di-
rector Agnieszka Holland.
Angry Harvest is a wartime
portrayal of a cat-and-mouse
game between a Polish Catholic
farmer and a Jewish woman
who escapes from a train bound
for the death camps.
Korczak will be shown Jan.
16. The film relates the story of
Janusz Korczak, physician, ed-
ucator and author, who main-
tained a home for Jewish
orphans in the Warsaw ghetto
until he, along with his charges,
was transported to his death in
Treblinka.
The series closes on Jan. 23
with Europa, Europa. An ado-
lescent German Jew, fleeing
Kristallnacht, becomes an er-
satz Pole swept up in the in-
sanity of World War II.
All three films are shown
with their original sound tracks
and English subtitles.
Beginning each evening at 7
p.m., the films will be intro-
duced by film critic and profes-
sor of film Dan Greenberg, who
is on the faculty of Oakland
Community College.
There is no charge. Reserva-
tions are not required. The
series is sponsored by the syn-
agogue's Adult Study Commis-
sion.
Film Benefit
For Mizrachi
Mizrachi Religious Zionists will
host a benefit showing of
Schindler's List 7:15 p.m, Jan.
9 at the Maple Theater in West
Bloomfield.
Proceeds are earmarked for
the organization's activities,
which range from educational
programs to support for Bnei
Akiva, Mizrachi's affiliated
youth group. All donations are
tax deductible.
Ticket purchases must be
made in advance. For reserva-
tions by Jan. 4, call Rabbi Brick-
man, 357-0609.
Mission Photos

the work of the Miracle Mission
to Israel last April, the Jewish
Community Center will present

Jan. 25-Feb. 7, in the lobby of
the Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center.
