Parent Workshop
Weekend Set

The Applebaum Jewish Par-
enting Center will host a week-
end with authors Adele Faber
and Elaine Mazlish Jan. 15 at
7:30 p.m. "How to Talk So Kids
Will Listen" will present anec-
dotes and demonstrations of ba-
sic principles of communication
with special emphasis on cop-
ing with children's negative feel-
ings. Following the presentation
will be an afterglow and auto-
graph session.
The weekend will continue at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
with "Engaging Cooperation In
Children" 9:30 a.m. Jan. 16.
Through lecture discussion,
role-play and group exercises,
participants will learn and prac-
tice skills that help create an at-
mosphere of cooperation and
invite children to assume re-
sponsibility.
This event is open to the pub-
lic. There is a fee. Call Kimberly

Community Forum

Members of the Jewish com-
munity will be able to express
their views on communal issues
and unmet needs to Jewish
Federation leaders 6 p.m. Jan.
13 at a public forum at the Max
M. Fisher Building.
The program will precede the
kickoff of the 1994 Allied Jew-
ish Campaign's Super Week '94,
which seeks funding for local
human services, Jewish educa-
tion and the rescue and reset-
tlement of the the Jews of the
former USSR. Concerns aired
at the forum will help Federa-
tion set priorities.
Individuals interested in ad-
dressing the forum must re-
serve a spot on the agenda. Call
