• BRING IN 1994 AT late, creme brulee, warm cook- ie assortment, granola, yogurt and berry trifle, and halvah. Also a hit were tasty full- course kosher meals provided by Paul Kohn of Quality Kosher Catering. Plenty of boxes for The Jew- ish News frenzied chocolateers to take home a lot of goodies as mementos of a swell party. MONEY LEFT over from the recent Central High Class Reunion of 1943 at Novi Hilton was divided equally by the grads and given to worthy causes ... Over $3,000 went to Michigan Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association, Child Abuse & Neglect Associ- ation, Wellness Inc. for AIDS, and Central High Scholarship Fund. "IRENE LIGHT Catering Co." was at it again . . . with cooking and setup by her and daughters Terri Cassel and Suzie Kamen . . . plus hosting, arrangement assistance, finan- cial backing and guest injuring by hubby Nate Light. The "Light Catering" group started about 16 years ago in Oak Park with 14 for Thanks- giving dinner . . . and hasn't missed a beat since . . . Their an- nual turkey chew has been in West Bloomfield the past nine years. Growth of family and friends has upped the guest list to well over 40 with holiday feasting too large for their home and Red Devil has become a tradition. now at the Light condo club- house. In Oak Park, the stalwart fire department bravely put out a "blaze" caused when a toast- er-oven sparked . . . This year, Suzie opened the oven door and the handle fell off . . . Nate showed me a new thing he and Irene had gotten in England for removing cocks and the point went into my finger instead. Terri, head of "Cheer Michi- gan!," was as usual in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, but cooked up a storm with Suzie and Mom and created those clever names again by each buf- fet dish . . . Irene made the turkey, stuffed cabbage, etc. . . . Nate wondered when some- one would ask about that cork remover so the devil in him could come out. Blair Kamen to the rescue with a Band-Aid when Nate stabbed me in the finger .. . Barrister Ed Gold told folks to see what happened as he took over my case . . . Louise and Karl Greenberg brought apple pie . . . Jan Kessler and Frank Blasofsky carried in pecan pie and pumpkin pie ... Nate's soon-to-be 25-year-old son, David, introduced his girlfriend, Tina Bantau . . . Daughter Cinch did the same with her boyfriend, Ken Jolin .. . After 20 years, Marilyn Nel- son told all she was no longer at Executive Custom Shirtmakers in Birmingham, formerly owned by Ernest Drucker, now living with wife Marietta in Florida . . . She's on her own as Custom Shirts by Marilyn, go- ing to homes and offices. Come to think of it, Nate nev- er did say he was sorry for the accident of piercing my finger ... or was it really an accident? AMONG THE traditional loss-leader buffets and $3.95 prime rib come-ons are still places in Las Vegas like Piero's Italian Cuisine, owned by Fred Glusman. Not only is this a five-star restaurant because of its excel- lent food, but Piero's boasts one of the finest waitpersons we have encountered. Miguel Osuna, Argentina- born, began as a busboy at Chez Paree in Chicago and came to Vegas in 1962 as a waiter at Piero's. He is so good that people don't mind waiting for main en- trees . . . Miguel makes certain customers are not ignored and is ever-present to satisfy all their wishes or needs plus mak- ing necessary suggestions .. . We wanted somethng to dip our bread in during this time and, no hesitation, Miguel brought the perfect thing . . . virgin olive oil with finely-chopped garlic cloves. Dining amid the soft lights, mirrors, dark mahogany walls, red leather booths is conducive for a very leisurely epicurean experience ... To thoroughly en- joy fine Italian gourmet cuisine, relaxed dining is important and also gives the chefs ample time in assuring a proper meal. The elegant food selections came on a rolling brass cart . . . Miguel's presentation was beautiful and the preparations were savory delights. The pleasant graciousness of this gentleman made people like Audrey Pearl and hubby Cy Feldman even further believers in the saying that food is only as good as the way it is pre- sented. For gourmet Chinese food, it is difficult to beat Chin's in the Fashion Center on Las Vegas Boulevard . . . . even when the lights go out . . . This happened while we were dining there and until they came back on, eating was by auxiliary lighting .. . Luckily, the lights didn't go out on the Strip . . . Can't imagine Las Vegas looking like anything but daylight even for seconds of the daily 24 hours.
