Tel Aviv (JTA) — Contrary
to their earlier stance, Hez-
bollah leaders said the
Islamic fundamentalist
organization was prepared
to discuss the fate of two
missing Israeli servicemen.
In an announcement from
Beirut, Hezbollah made the
offer in return for the freeing
of several hundred Lebanese
it claimed were being held in
Israeli prisons.
Last week, President
Hafez Assad of Syria agreed
to allow a U.S. congressional
mission to investigate the
fate of missing Israeli ser-
vicemen.
At that time, Hezbollah
said it would not provide any
assistance in locating the
MIAs.

missile fired by Hezbollah
Fighters slammed into their
armored vehicle, which was
on a routine patrol in the
southern Lebanon security
zone.
Israeli military sources
said Hezbollah forces have
been firing at units of the
Israel Defense Force and its
ally, the South Lebanon
Army, on a daily basis for
the past several weeks in an
effort to disrupt the peace
process and to force Israel to
withdraw from Lebanon.
Since the beginning of
1993, IDF and SLA troops
have killed 120 Hezbollah
fighters. Some 59 Israeli
soldiers have been killed
during 30 operations against
Hezbollah units during the
past six months.
