Joseph, like his father Jacob,
made his sons promise to carry
his body back to Canaan. De-
spite his position in Egypt, he
desired to remain steadfastly a
Jew.
During the exodus from
Egypt, Joseph's coffin was car-
ried next to the Ark of the
Covenant because Joseph had
fulfilled all that was written in
the Torah. Higher praise can-
not be said.
Some 13 years and a lot of
learning later, I still find Joseph
to be the biblical personage
most worth emulating.
Joseph lives on in our hearts
and minds every time we re-
member his attributes and al-
low them to inspire us to better
serve our God through service
to our fellow human beings. By
doing so we make his memory
a blessing. ❑
