The Wiz Staged
At The JCC

The Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit and
Nancy Gurwin Productions will
present the musical The Wiz at
the Aaron DeRoy Theatre at
Maple-Drake. The musical will
open on Jan. 8 and will run on
Saturdays and Sundays
through Jan. 30. Sundays will

murder mystery written by

String Quartet
Presents Series

The University Musical Society
of the University of Michigan
will present the entire Shos-
takovich String Quartet Cycle
in a series of five special con-
certs, January 25-29 performed
by Borodin String Quartet. The
concert series, which features
five 3-quartet installments of
the great string quartets of the
20th-century composer Dmitri
Shostakovich, is offered in con-
junction with an interdisci-
plinary celebration of the
composer's life and era, "Shos-
takovich: The Man and His
Age," hosted by the University .
of Michigan's Center for Rus-
sian and East European
Studies.
The first and fifth (final) per-
formances will be presented at
Rackham Auditorium on Jan.
25 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 29 at 8
p.m. (reserved seating). The sec-
ond, third and fourth install-
ments will be presented at the
U-M Museum of Art on Jan. 26
at 8 p.m., Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. and
Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. (general ad-
mission).

The Ann Arbor-based duo, Bol-
com and Morris, will be the
second of the American Artists
Series season 3 p.m. Jan. 9 at

William Bolcom is a Pulitzer-
Prize winning composer and
pianist; Joan Morris, his wife,
is a classically trained mezzo-
soprano.
