It'll be making whoopie time
again when the clock strikes
12 to usher in Baby 1994 .. .
as merrimakers toot horns,
hurl streamers, pop balloons
with their champagne bottles, and drink a hopeful wish-
come-true toast.
It's a big night for nitery and hotel owners . . . and
as usual, most of them will have their fun festivities for
merrymakers who want the excuse to make whoopee
. . . Especially if 1993 wasn't too good a year, kicking the
old geezer in his butt and kissing baby '94 will be an op-
timistically happy one ... But it's still the occasion of oc-
casions . . . and the night of nights.
Prices haven't changed much from last year . . . even
though costs have gone up . . . Owners want bodies, not
empty seats . . . and this is good thinking . . . The more
fun people have . . . the more apt they are to remem-
ber and come back other times during the year.
Most of the spots have varied seatings . . . with party
favors at the last one . . . Hotels continue their variety
of packages . . . and in some instances are a major bet
. . . especially if customers are drinking and very wise-
ly look for a place to stay over . . . Better to sleep it off
and nurse the hangover with brunch or continental
breakfast before taking to the road.
Early seatings for folks who want to eat and rush
home for the television goodies New Year's Eve, will find
many prices much below even normal days.
House parties are always a ball ... but cleaning up

afterwards is more of a headache than that hangover
... Let the nitery and club owners do all your dirty work
. . . They're geared for New Year's Eve celebrations.
New Year's Eve is like the brass ring on a merry-go-
round . There's a lot of fun to be had by those who grab
for a good time.
Take a tip . . . call ahead to make sure your reserva-
tion is confirmed . . . At open house niteries, find out if
there's room to get in . . . and how long the wait for a
table.
If you're driving, forget that "last one for the road"
. . . unless you want to chance winding up lying on the
road . . . with your car bashed in . . . Don't want to scare
you, folks, but 'tain't worth it . . . Have a cup of coffee
and maybe a piece of bread or cake to soak up the booze
you think won't affect you.
The 1994 diaper-clad tot will be heartily welcomed
by many . . . with hotels and restaurants doing their
darndest to give a lot more for the money than ever be-
fore.
Inflation, recession or whatever . . . when it comes
to going out and celebrating New Year's Eve, people of
the world toss all other thoughts aside and go about it
with much gusto.
Hotels and restaurants who try to get rich quick all
in one night either don't expect to be in business for long
. . . or are just plain stupid . . . There is still tomorrow
and return customers are always very important .. .
Smart owners have structured their prices around to-
day's economy in giving a lot of value for the hard-earned
dollars.
Special and pre-fixe menus are usually the chefs picks
of the best listed by establishments in which they ply
their culinary trade and imaginative concoctions to sat-
isfy the most discriminating taste buds.
Remember, it is always a good bet to make reserva-
tions . . . Most hotels and restaurants absolutely require
them.

When going from one place to another, it might not
be a bad idea to call ahead and see if there is room to get
in. . . Having an open house or just because it may be
after midnight doesn't mean people left to make room
for you . . . Why make an unnecessary trip when just a
phone call will help you and your party play it safe.
Whether it's watching the Times Square ball coming
down on television, enjoying a good movie or stage show,
whooping it up with others at hotels and restaurants,
as seems to be the most popular bet for a lot of New
Year's Eve fun, few people will forget to celebrate in their
own way . . . the passing of another year . . . with hopes
for a good 1994.

store for revelers who'll kick out the old and welcome in
a brand new baby.
And speaking of safe . . . I can't say it too many times
. . . a very big thing to remember is not to drive if you
drink too much . . . and to be keenly aware of the other
cars . . . Their drivers may be too drunk to care . . . Or
some kook may be the nut holding a wheel . . . Start the
new year off right . . . Don't wake up with a hangover in
the hospital.
Have a good one . . . maybe yours will be among the
wishes that come true in 1994.
