All classes and programs described will take place at Midrasha, 21550 West 12 Mile Road, Southfield. There is a tuition and/or materials fee for each course or program. Beginning the first week in January, Midrasha will offer two new 12-week Hebrew lan- guage classes for adults. These classes will end just before Passover. An 8-week spring se- mester will start following the holiday. Ronit Gutkovitch will teach "Magic Hebrew Beginner Plus," for those with up to one semes- ter of previous Hebrew lan- guage instruction, on Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. be- ginning Jan. 3. This class will include Hebrew reading, writ- ing, and speaking. Ahuva Newman will teach "Total Beginner Conversational Hebrew" on Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. starting Jan. 5. Midrasha's ongoing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sun- day Hebrew classes will begin a new 16-week semester in January. The starting date for second-semester Tuesday class- es will be Jan. 4. The schedule is: Tuesday nights 7:30-9:30 p.m. Geri Levit will teach "In- termediate Hebrew Reading, Writing and Speaking"; Ahuva Newman will teach "Continu- ing Beginner Conversational Hebrew"; Nira Lev will teach "Advanced Conversational He- brew." On Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon, Nira Lev will teach "Pre-Advanced Con- versational Hebrew." The starting date for second- semester Monday classes is Jan. 10. The following will be offered: Monday mornings from 9:45-11:45 a.m., Nira Lev will teach "Advanced Beginner Con- versational Hebrew." Monday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon, Ahuva Newman will teach "In- termediate Conversational He- brew II." Nira Lev's "Advanced Hebrew Language and Litera- ture" class, which meets from 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. on Sunday mornings, will begin its second semester on Jan. 16. Thursday Hebrew classes at Midrasha will begin their sec- ond semester the first week in February. Starting Feb. 3, the following 16-session courses will be offered on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon: "Continuing Beginner Conver- sational Hebrew: with Ahuva Newman; "Continuing Inter- mediate Conversational He- brew with Nira Lev and Tsiona Ragowsky. Midrasha also will present several text study progams for interested adult learners. On Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m., Midrasha and the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at Wayne State University will present a text study seminar featuring Professor Marc S. Bernstein of Many adult Jewish study programs are being offered by Midrasha during the month of January. the Department of Near East Studies, U-M. The subject will be "Midrash and Marginality: The `Agunot' of Devorah Baron and S. Y. Agnon." The series is being underwritten by the Cohn-Haddow Center, but there is a materials fee and pre- registration is required. Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., Midrasha will present a text study session featuring Dr. Ellen Umansky of the New York-based CLAL — the Na- tional Jewish Center for Learn- ing and Leadership as part of a series titled, "Turning Points in Jewish History." Dr. Umansky's subject will be "Monarchy and Prophecy." There is a charge, and pre-registration is required. Midrasha's CLAL study series is open to any adult learner who is not already studying with CLAL as part of a study group organized by the Jewish Fed- eration of Metropolitan Detroit.
