Rabbi Yaakov Feitman

"The bottom line is anyone
who isn't involved in a parent's
care is an ungrateful child,"
Rabbi Feitman said.
The Merkaz and the Coun-
cil of Orthodox Rabbis invited
Rabbi Feitman and Mark
Schlussel, chairman of the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit elder care options com-
mittee, to discuss caring for se-
niors.
Mr. Schlussel reviewed some
options Federation is consid-
ering to determine the fate of
the Borman Hall nursing
home.
The first option involves sell-
ing Borman Hall to an owner
who would continue to serve its
current residents and maintain
Jewish programing.
Another plan would be to re-
locate residents to another fa-
cility in Oakland County, in the
center of the Jewish commu-
nity.
A third would be to close
Borman Hall completely and
relocate residents.
"There are no definitive an-
swers," Mr. Schlussel said. "We
have to focus on the basic is-
sues we face: Borman Hall is
costly to operate."
During Rabbi Feitman's lec-
ture, he praised seniors and
spoke out against euthanasia.
"Everyone is destined to a lit-
tle suffering," he said. "Yes,
there is a great deal of it and
we don't want to see that suf-
fering." D
