JACK STEIN, 83, of South-
field, died Dec. 8. He is survived
by a sister, Lillian Frumin of
Oak Park; nieces and nephews,
Phyllis and Dr. Herbert
Mendelson, Marilyn and
Leonard Acker, Dr. Sheldon
and Elizabeth Stein.

RALPH STEINBAUM, 83, of
Cannel Valley, Calif., formerly
of Michigan, died Dec. 13. He is
survived by his wife, Mania;
daughter, Dr. Lola Steinbaum
both of Carmel Valley; three
grandchildren.

Milton Ressler

Milton "Peppy" Ressler, 75, of
Farmington Hills, died Dec. 10.
He was an executive in the re-
tail and wholesale costume jew-
elry business and owner and
distributor for Adrienne Dis-
tributors. He was a longtime
Pontiac merchant. He was a
member and board member of
Temple Israel, B'nai Israel
Shaarey Zedek and B'nai B'rith.
He leaves his wife, Esther;
daughters and son-in-law,
Adrienne Ressler and Russell
Mott of Plantation, Fla.; Pa-
tricia Ressler of Kalamazoo;
brother and sister-in-law, Dr.
Lowell and June of West
Bloomfield; two grandchil-
dren.

Laura E. Milan

Laura E. Milan, of West Bloom-
field, died Dec. 8. She was a 5th-
grade teacher in the Oak Park
School District for over 20 years.
She was a member of the Michi-
gan Education Association,
Harry Keiden Lodge of B'nai
B'rith and one of its founders.
She leaves her husband,
Samuel; son, Dr. Gary of Bev-
erly Hills, Calif.; daughter
and son-in-law, Joyce and
Seymour Kliger of Farming-
ton Hills; sister-in-law, Gale
Simon; four grandchildren;
one great-grandson.

A. Albert Sugar

A. Albert Sugar, 78, of West
Bloomfield, died Dec. 8. He was
an attorney and founding part-
ner of Sugar, Schwartz, Silver,
Schwartz and Tyler.
He leaves his wife, Beat-
rice; daughters and sons-in-
law, Arline and Paul Gould of
West Bloomfield, Ruth and
Cliff Beresh of Birmingham;
sister and brother-in-law, Es-
ther and Charles Siegel;
brothers and sisters-in-law,
Dr. Maurice and Norma Sug-
ar, Barney and Minnie
Broner; four grandchildren.

Anna Slomovitz

Anna Slomovitz, a founder of
JARC (Jewish Association for
Residential Care) and active in
Zionist causes, died Dec. 11.
Mrs. Slomovitz, 88, was the
widow of Phillip Slomovitz,
founder of The Jewish News.
Together with her hus-
band, she was instrumental
in the formation of JARC and
the creation of its first group
home, on Evergreen near
Eight Mile Road in Detroit.
She was a member of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek for
70 years and was a past pres-
ident of Jewish National
Fund and a member of
Hadassah.
She leaves her sons and
daughter-in-law, Gabriel,
Carmi and Sharron; a sister,
Geula Schub of Chicago; one
grandson.

Paul Solway

Paul B. Solway, 69, of Bloom-
field Hills, died Dec. 10. An op-
tometrist, he practiced in Ypsi-
lanti for 38 years and retired in
1986; he was a graduate of
Northern Illinois College of Op-
tometry. Mr. Solway was a
charter member of Congrega-
tion Beth Shalom, a member of
B'nai B'rith, American Opto-
metric Association and the
Michigan Optometric Associa-
tion.
He leaves his wife, Etta;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Harvey and Nancy of Birm-
ingham, Dr. Alan and
Melodie of Bloomfield Hills;

town deaths, with a
Detroit connection, must
send in a typed, double-
spaced notice. Please in-
clude a daytime phone
number in case we need
additional information.
Single-spaced or hand-
written letters will not be
accepted.
Out-of-town obituaries
must be in our office by
10 a.m. Tuesday for that
week's issue. They can be
faxed. The fax number is
