Don't Pay Full Price! Don't Wait for a Sale! HATE page 1 Just in Time for the Holidays .. . ter raising necessary funds, he was on his way to Russia with a film crew of two. Mr. Fox spent a month in Russia, filming 60 hours of raw footage which included inter- views with Russian Jews, gen- tiles, government leaders and members of hate groups like Pamyat. As he interviewed leaders of Pamyat, who hold Jews respon- sible for everything from the Bolshevik Revolution to eco- nomic hardship, Mr. Fox found his life threatened on several oc- casions. But when he was fin- ished, the essence of this group was captured for everyone to see. "People don't realize most Jews in Russia still cannot leave," he said. "Many are poor and can't afford to get to Moscow for a visa, much less afford a ticket out of Russia. "If you're a Jew and you try to sell your house, your neigh- bors know and they will try and steal the money you made on o our eve SWEATER .and'TW Mr. Fox did not intend to produce Freedom to Hate. "But as I began writing for and about theater, I started get- ting into my own Jewish roots," Mr. Fox said. In 1979, he went to Israel to research what would have been his second book. Then he met up with Major Sa'ad Haddad, commander of South Lebanon's Christian mili- tia and an ally of Israel. "I spent a lot of time with him and started writing articles about him and the struggle be- tween the PLO and Lebanese forces," said Mr. Fox, whose sto- ries on the Middle East have been published in the New York Times and other major American newspapers. "For someone who came from Broadway, it was quite an edu- cation." ❑ v.0 Jewish Agency Acts On Spending Jerusalem (JTA) — The Jew- ish Agency and the World Zionist Organization are clamping down on spending by senior officials. New policies announced last week will eliminate the use of corporate credit cards, require detailed monthly expense reports, and ban the personal use of "frequent flier" bonuses accrued through agency travel. Also, everyone, including the chairman and the direc- tors- general, will be accoun- table to someone for their expenditures. The rules were recom- mended by a committee formed. last February after the revelation that the agen- cy's chairman, Simcha Dinitz, had personal credit card bills paid by the Jewish WINTER SPORTSWEAR Agency and was otherwise lax in handling expenses. The district attorney here has reportedly recommended that Mr. Dinitz be charged on fraud counts that could bring up to a 10- year sentence. The new rules apply to about 50 agency officials. • Agency Treasurer Hanan Ben-Yehuda told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the procedures for work-related expenses already on the books provided too little ac- countability and too many loopholes. "Now, everyone is respon- sible to someone else," he said. The new system has penalties for failing to comp- ly with accounting re- quirements. ❑ Dept.
