prisoner in exchange for Mr.
Pollard's freedom, have cir-
culated among circles close
to the case for a couple of
years.
A letter in the New York
Times last week called for
Israel to release Mordechai
Vanunu in exchange for Mr.
Pollard. Mr. Vanunu is an
Israeli convicted of treason
for leaking information on
Israel's nuclear capability to
the British press.
The letter urged Mr. Clin-
ton to recommend Mr.
Vanunu's release to Mr.
Rabin in order to demon-
strate U.S. opposition to
nuclear weapons prolifera-
tion.
Sources also note Israel's
recent release of Yosef Amit,
an Israeli imprisoned for
spying for an unnamed
country, which, according to
Moment magazine, was in
fact the United States.
Pollard activists had
previously suggested
trading Mr. Amit for Mr.
Pollard.
U.S. officials have denied,
however, that an American
spy was imprisoned in
Israel.

Brothers Held
In Weapons Sale

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two
brothers from Kfar Saba
were being held while police
investigate charges that
they sold stolen arms to Pa-
lestinian terrorists that
were later used in murders
of Israeli citizens.
Rafi and Moshe Ohana
were alleged to have stolen
at least two Uzi submachine
guns from the Israeli army
compound in Tel Aviv where
the younger brother had
been carrying out his com-
pulsory military duties.
Police say the weapons
were sold to a Palestinian
from the West Bank who, in
turn, sold them to the Ezze-
A-Din unit of the fundamen-
talist Hamas movement.
The Ezze-A-Din unit is the
group responsible for the
deaths of policemen Motti
Yisrael and Danny Hazout
and the kidnapping and
murder of border policeman
Nissim Toledano.
The weapons were found
when the Ezze-A-Din group
was uncovered and its mem-
bers arrested recently.
The Ohana brothers, who
were ordered remanded in
custody by the Tel Aviv
Magistrate's Court for 15
days, deny the charges. They
say they had been involved
with the West Bank Pales-
tinian in the purchase of a
used car.
