Workshop Set

The Applebaum Jewish Par-
enting Center will host a week-
end designed to boost parenting
skills Jan. 15-16.
Authors Adele Faber and
Elaine Mazlish will present a
two-part program of practical
and effective methods of com-
munication on Jan. 15 at 7:30
p.m. There will be an enter-
taining and informative evening
with an afterglow and auto-
graph session with the authors.
On Jan. 16 at 9:30 a.m. there
will be bagels and a workshop
to introduce skills that help cre-
ate a climate of cooperation and
invite children to assume re-
sponsibility.
There is a fee. Call Kimberly
Steinberg, 681-5353, to reserve
a place.

Jewish History
Series Set

The Midrasha Center for Adult
Jewish Learning will offer a six-
part text study series for high-
ly motivated adult learners,
featuring guest scholars from
the New York-based CLAL —
the National Jewish Center for
Learning and Leadership. The
series is titled "Turning Points
in Jewish History."
Students may register for the
entire series or for individual
sessions. There is a tuition
charge for the series or per ses-
sion. All sessions will take place
at Midrasha, 21550 West 12
Mile Road, Southfield, from
7:30-9 p.m. Program dates, top-
ics and speakers are as follows:
Dec. 15 — "Covenant: The
Jewish Dream of a Perfect
World," with Rabbi Steven
Greenberg; Jan. 27 —"Monar-
chy and Prophecy," with Dr.
Ellen Umansky; Feb. 23 —
"The End of the World," with
Rabbi Tsvi Blanchard; April 7.
"Power in Powerlessness, with
Rabbi Brad Hirschfield; May
4 — "Dhimmi or People of the
Book," with Dr. Charles Raffel;
and June 8 — "Crusades and
their Aftermath," with Rabbi
Reuven Kimelman.
Pre-registration is required.
