aged by NAFTA. His company
sells meat products to Mexico.
With NAFTA in place, it will be
cheaper to sell products there,
he said.
"It would help business for

ally for us to isolate ourselves is

Thorn Apple Valley has no
plans to move plants to Mexico,
Mr. Dorfman said. Mexico pro-
vides no raw materials, he said.
"We couldn't save enough
money to make up for the extra
freight costs," Mr. Dorfman
said.
Guardian Industries, a flat
glass manufacturer owned by
Bill Davidson, has a different
tale to share.
Guardian Vice President Pe-
ter Walters said the company
supports free trade. The com-
pany, he said, would have been
a major supporter of this free
trade pact if the United States
would have been on equal foot-
ing with the other countries.
Mexico, Mr. Walters said,
gets preferential treatment
from the United States in the
flat glass industry. Because of
this arrangement, duty on im-
ported gings to Mexico is 20 per-
cent. In most cases, Mexican
glass comes into the United
States duty free.
