There were also women's di-
vision workshops where pro-
grams were discussed to help
poor, hungry and homeless
women and children. One such
program, "Shalom Baby," was
introduced by the Minneapolis
Federation. The program in-
volved donations of cribs, sleep-
ware, toys, diapers and formula
for the small children of Soviet
emigres.
Another
program,
"Gesharim" or bridges, was in-
troduced by the Miami
Women's Division. This pro-
gram outreached to Jews by
choice in the areas of ritual, tra-
ditions and organizational
structure.
Still, women are not making
strides in many areas of feder-
ation. Perhaps the biggest black
eye comes in professional posi-
tions. While 61 percent of per-
sons on federation staffs are
women, only 18.4 percent of
those who hold the position of
executive director are women
— no woman holds this position
in a large city and only one in
an intermediate city.

Minn., said, "Of all the things
that I've been hearing, regard-
less of the issue, the operative
word seems to be change —
change in our communities,
change in the way we reach out
to the people, change in our
agencies and the way we deliv-
er our services and change in
our relationship with Israel."

adult single Jews
than ever and we're
not doing anything
for them."

But Judith Kasle of Flint said
the GA, from the first one she
attended in 1979 to this one,
comes down again to continu-
ity.
"It's as hard hitting now as it
was in 1979 when we talk about
continuity," said Ms. Kasle.
"Over the years we've seen
changes in issues, Ethiopian re-.
settlement, Russian resettle-
ment, intermarriage and
others. But one thing stays the
same and that's our concern
over continuity."
Or as Baltimore delegate Sue
Liebman said, "It's the goal; it's
the theme, and it probably
won't ever change as long as
