Andy Zack, secretary for
the Jewish Community
Council, said his agency
does not support the views
of Kahane Chai or the
Jewish Idea.
"I believe (Mr. Kahane)
holds a racist view. What
he's talking about is creat-
ing an apartheid state
which is anathema to the
vast mainstream of
American Jewry," he said.
"The JCCouncil deals with
the Jewish Idea on an ad
hoc basis. Right now they
seem to be concerned with
getting publicity for what
is a meager group. I think

there is a lot more sound
and fury than substance to
these people."
Mr. Kahane believes
that mainstream Jews in
Israel support him, albeit
silently. Most Israelis
oppose the peace accord
but are too apathetic to
speak out, he said. His job,
therefore, is not to con-
vince people of his views,
but rather to "take them
to the streets...
"More and more people
now understand what my
father said. They under-
stand he was right."
