colleagues asked that she
leave them a recording of the
original songs she wrote to go
along with study units.
This request led to her au-
dio tape, which was ulti-
mately polished at a studio
and is quickly becoming one
of the most exciting develop-
ments in her career.
"I sent it out to some radio
stations that are syndicated
around the country," she ex-
plained. "A station (KTOO) in
Alaska like it really well and
has been playing it.
"This month the station is
putting out its third cassette
and songbook with children's
artists (We Like Kids — Let-
ters and Numbers') and is us-
ing one of my songs, 'Five
Little Leaves.' "
Ms. Schiffman's closest
young fan is her son, Corey,
7. On a recent plane trip, he
was listening to her record-
ing on earphones and noticed
another child with a headset.
He approached the girl, of-
fered to share the tape and
wound up selling it.
"I thought it was so neat
that he wanted to share
mom's music," said the com-
poser.

Schiffman's Dec. 4 show in
