eisa Corbin's kinder-
garten class at Doher-
ty Elementray School
in West Bloomfield is
involved in an exciting
Thanksgiving unit. In addi-
tion to the stories about
pilgrims and the colorful
paper-plate turkeys, the
students learned how to
carve a turkey from an ex-
pert — Papa Loewenstein,
the president of the 99-year-
old Loewenstein Poultry and
Game Co. in Detroit. Mar-
shall Loewenstein, grand-
father of Andrea (A.J.)
Roberts, a kindergarten
student, came to class to
demonstrate.
"He showed us how to
carve the turkey," said

Darrin Achtman.

"It was a big knife. A but-
cher knife," added Seth
Hofmann.
"Fantastic," said Laura
Garsten. Ryan Landau
agreed.
A.J. knew just what to do
with the turkey after her

grandfather carved it. "You
can eat it."
All the students then
Wrote Papa Loewenstein a
big thank-you letter.
