DIA Hosts Cane Exhibit An array of walking sticks will be displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The 92 canes in "Step Lively: The Art of the Folk Cane" represent only part of the collection belonging to George H. Meyer, a Bloom- field Hills attorney. Mr. Meyer is credited with being among the first to recognize that folk art canes, apart from their historical and cultural importance, are works of art in their own right. Mr. Meyer, with his wife Kay White Meyer, wrote the catalog American Folk Art Canes- Personal Sculpture, and he is a member of the board of trustees of the Museum of American Folk Art in New York.
