ing for so many Las Vegas ho-
tels and super stars.
When Sid moved from here
to Vegas, Ben "Bugs? Siegal
gave him an apartment at the
Flamingo at the same rent for
life.
Wonder what Ben would say
if he walked into today's
Flamingo and saw names like
"Bugsy's Bar," "Bugsy's Celebri-
ty Theatre" and "Bugsy's Casi-
no Lounge?" . . . Who knows?
. . . He might like it.
CONGRATS . . . to Julie
Zimmerman . . . on her 13th
birthday this Sunday . . . The
daughter of Gail and Lonny
Zimmerman will be bat mitz-
vah tomorrow at Temple
Emanu-El, followed by a lun-

friends Sunday evening with
a "Guys and Dolls Casino
Night" of dinner, dancing and
games at Temple Emanu-El.
IT COULD VERY well be
one of the best ones yet interns
of headliner entertainment .. .
Most of about 4,000 people who
attended the recent 60th Bal-
four Celebration at Fox Theatre
by the Zionist Organization of
America, Detroit District, will
readily attest to this.
Joel Grey was little short of
sensational, putting on an hour
of continuous versatile profes-
sionalism ... His multi-talented
showmanship drew deserved

standing ovations from the front
row to the back, as he sang,
danced, did comedy, mimicry
and some of the Yiddish paro-
dies for which his father,
Mickey Katz, was noted.
While resting until his next
whirl around the large Fox
stage, Joel told about the in-
structor at a seniors' home ask-
ing three elderly gents how
much three times three was
. . . Mr. Schwartz answered
"575" . . . Mr. Lapides said,
"Tuesday" . . . Mr. Cohen
replied, "Nine" ... "That's won-
derful," said the instructor.
"How did you arrive at that?"
. . . "I took 575 and subtracted
Tuesday."
Mack Pitt and his big band
again did a super job . . .
Localite comedienne Norma
Zager was warm-up for Joel
Grey.
Mario's and Carl's had a
steady stream of diners going
to Balfour 60 ... After the show,
so many wished they could have
again said, "I'll meet you at
Darbys."

mada Hotel (former Days) on
W. Nine Mile.
IN 1985, a holiday gala to
benefit Alzheimer's Association
was held at the home of Doreen
and Dave Hermelin, with about
100 to 150 people attending.
The first Alzheimer's Choco-
late Jubilee in 1986 at Somer-
set Inn was its aftermath for 75
lunchers and about 200 Jubilee
attendees.
Last year, 275 lunched at the
Ritz-Carlton and between 500
and 600 were at the Jubilee.
Even more are expected for
the 8th annual Chocolate Ju-
bilee, Nov. 21, at Ritz-Carlton
Dearborn . . . Its patron
luncheon hosted by Detroit
Medical Center begins at 12
noon with tickets from $100
also including first tasting at
the Jubilee.
Folks coming just for the
Chocolate Jubilee, admission
$25, will mingle with 25 local
personalities from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m. while enjoying free sam-
ples of candies, desserts and
chocolate novelties.

Alzheimer's Association, Detroit
chapter, 557-8277.
THE EXCELLENT locale
has had two former tenants .. .
Place For Ribs and Dot &
Marki's.
After being dark for almost
two years, the site two doors
from Star Deli on 12 Mile, west
of Telegraph, is lit up again and
opened as Picasso's Pizza &
Grill.
Thanks to the getting-start-
ed help of Hebrew Free Loan
Association, Scott Herskovitz
and Suzette Roehm have taken
over with a fine menu selection
from which to choose.
One of the big features is 32
different pizza toppings, among
the largest around . . . plus
chicken, ribs, subs, salads, etc.
. . . nothing fried.
Scott and Suzette have a sev-
en-day-a-week operation with
much dedication that will help
in no small measure toward a
major growth of Picasso's .. .
Seeing customers return has
already been their greatest
reward.
JOE MUER doesn't plan to
open his new restaurant at the
former Bijou on Southfield un-
til the end of January ... Name
is slated to be "Joe's Grill of My
Dreams" but second thoughts
may be cropping up.
