"DESIGN YOUR OWN WITH NATUZZI LEATHER"

ble to tell," said Mr. Princz's
attorney, Steven Perles.
Anticipating a drawn-out
court battle, Mr. Lautenberg
authored the resolution in
the hope of bringing about a
quicker solution.
The senator presented a
copy of the resolution to Mr.
Princz last week, calling it
"a reminder that we're go-
ing to work together" to see
that justice is done.
Mr. Princz, who lost three
brothers and three sisters in
the Holocaust, called the
senator's action
"admirable."
According to attorney
Perles, the German govern-
ment agreed to compensate
Holocaust victims that were
either German citizens or
considered "stateless" at the
time of their release from
concentration camps.
As for victims from other
nations, Mr. Perles said,
Germany made deals with
those governments on how to
compensate former
prisoners.
Germany considered mr.
Princz, a U.S. citizen at the
time of his capture, to be
neither a German citizen nor
"stateless," Perles said.
Mr. Princz, who resides in
Highland Park, N.J., is one
of only two known Jewish
Holocaust survivors who
were American civilians.

Ambassador
Maintains Ties

Washington (JTA) — A chief
player on the Clinton ad-
ministration's Middle East
team vowed this week that
as U.S. ambassador to Israel,
he would maintain the close
ties between the two coun-
tries.
"If confirmed, I promise to
follow the tradition Presi-
dent Clinton and Secretary
(of State Warren)
Christopher initiated from
the earliest days of this ad-
ministration, of close and
full consultations with Israel
on the wide range of issues
on our common agenda,"
Edward Djerejian told the
Senate Foreign Relations
committee.
Mr. Djerejian, a widely
respected veteran diplomat,
currently serves as assistant
secretary of state for Near
East affairs, where he is
deeply involved in the Mid-
dle East peace process.
He said at his confirmation
hearings that he was
"fortunate" during his
tenure as assistant secretary
to have seen the "bonds in
the U.S.-Israel relationship
become stronger than any
time in recent history." ❑
