he Cohn-Haddow Center
for Judaic Studies of
Wayne State University
and the Midrasha Center
for Adult Jewish Learning will
offer a three-part text study
seminar titled "Ancient Themes
in Modern Hebrew Literature"
with Professor Marc S. Bern-
stein of the Department of Mod-
ern Hebrew Literature at the
University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor. Session dates are Dec. 6,
Jan. 10 and Feb. 7. Each ses-
sion will be self-contained and
can be attended independently
of the others. To ensure college-
seminar study format, regis-
tration is limited. Advance
registration through Midrasha
is required.
The first session, Dec. 6 from
7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Congrega-
tion B'nai Moshe, is titled "The
Story of Our Master Joseph: In-
tertextuality in Judaism and Is-
lam."
The second session will take
place Jan. 10 at the Midrasha
Center from 7:30-8:30 p.m. It is

titled "Midrasha and Margin-
ality: The `Agunot' of Deborah
Baron and S. Y. Agnon." This
session will focus on issues of
women's role and marginality.
The third session will be Feb.
7 at Midrasha from 7:30 to 8:30
p.m. It is titled "The R/Evolu-
tion of Modern Hebrew Litera-
ture." Professor Bernstein will
discuss the revival of Hebrew
as a tool of literary expression,
as reflected in prose works.
"Ancient Themes in Modern
Hebrew Literature" is being un-
derwritten by the Cohn-Had-
dow Center for Judaic Studies
at Wayne State University, en-
abling Midrasha to waive the
usual tuition fees. There will be
a materials fee, however. Reg-
istrants will receive program
materials to read in advance of
each session.
