MSU Hillel
Plans Events

Hillel Jewish Student Center
at Michigan State University
will sponsor the following
events. On Nov. 12 there will be
a Shabbat dinner a 7 p.m. fol-
lowing Reform services at 6:15
p.m. There is a charge and
reservations are required. Af-
ter dinner, United Jewish Ap-
peal will sponsor a talk at 8:15
p.m. by Tibor Jonas, a Holo-
caust survivor and UJA emis-
sary.
On Nov. 14, David Woznika,
director ofJewish Education for
the 92nd Street Yin New York,
will speak at dinner at Hillel at
5:30 p.m. on "Why Lead a Jew-
ish Life?" The dinner is free and
will be followed by a public lec-
ture at 7:30 p.m. at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek, 1924
Coolidge Road, East Lansing.
On Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. in
Holmes Hall, the Religious com-
mittee will sponsor part two of
its Jewish identity discussion
series, "Theophobia... Why Do
Jews Fear Judaism?" Professor
Edith Covensky of Wayne State
University will speak on "Ju-
daic Ways to Solve Life's Every-
day Problems."

Hillel Creates
Metro Council

Hillel of Metropolitan Detroit
has set up a collective council,
including students from local
campuses.
Present council members
are Marjan Banooni, Adina
Blum, Eric Dermer, Kevin El-
binger, Michael Fishman,
Julie Galazan, David Jarcaig,
Alyssa Katzman, Alex
Kheynson, Ruth Littmann,
Steve Rosen, Jason Roskind

Calendar

Hillel Foundation at the Uni-
versity of Michigan will spon-
sor a panel discussion on "The
Role of Women in Judaism"
Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Hillel.
Panelists will represent Reform,
Conservative, Orthodox and
Humanistic points of view. Dis-
cussion and questions will fol-
low.

Studies and Sephardim
Group at Hillel will present
Victor Perera, author of The
Cross and Pear Tree: A
Sephardic Journey Nov. 15 at
4 p.m. Location to be an-

American Movement for Is-
rael at the University of
Michigan Hillel Foundation
will present Haim Koren,
consul for press and infor-
mation at the Consulate Gen-
eral of Israel in Chicago.
Koren will discuss the recent
breakthroughs in the Israeli-
Palestinian peace process
Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at Hillel.
Israel-Michigan Political
Action Committee at the Uni-
versity of Michigan Hillel will
welcome State Senator Lana
Pollack, D-Ann Arbor, Nov.
17 at 7 p.m. at Hillel.
The Jewish Lesbian, Bi-
sexual and Gay Collective at
the University of Michigan
Hillel Foundation will have
a Shabbat Vegetarian
Potluck Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Call

VIA Hillel, Hillel's com-
munity service organization,
will prepare and serve dinner
to the homeless Nov. 19 at St.
Mary's Church. Volunteers
are needed for two shifts: 3-
5:15 p.m. and 5:15-7:30 p.m.
