Features Dolls
The Backdoor Gallery, located
in Farmington, hosts space for
artists specializing in fiber art
figures presented in a non-tra-
ditional doll form. Eighteen
artists from Michigan and
throughout the country are cur-
rently showcased. New artists
will be introduced regularly.
Doll art featured in the Back-
door Gallery is termed non-tra-
ditional because it is created
with fiber and other natural
materials, such as wood and
clay, combined in unlikely ways.
Many figures are quite detailed.
Some figures lend a sense of the
spiritual with embellishment of
feathers, muted fabrics and
hand-dyed silks. Others are
whimsical, puppet-like in fash-
ion and character, detailed with
miniature ornamentation and
richly colored fabrics. Many fig-
ures are further enhanced with
given names and stories.
The Backdoor Gallery, 37220
Eight Mile Road, is open 11-3
Thursday - Friday, 12-5 Satur-
day and by appointment. Call
474-8306.
