rescue of his McCrory's store
chain, which fell victim to the
recession, downsized drastical-
ly and filed for bankruptcy pro-
tection, is an agreement with
Burger King to develop 200 of
its restaurants on the McCro-
ry's property.

Mr. Hason, 35, who began
working for Riklis as a security
man/bodyguard for his ac-
tress/singer wife Pia Zadora,
and stayed in Riklis's employ as
he attended business school,
has worked his way up in the
organization, concentrating on
managing fast-food concerns.
Although Mr. Hason and Mr.
Tamir will be in charge of the
company, "I will be making all
of the major decisions," Mr. Rik-
lis said. And referring to the
rainy weather outdoors, joked,
"You know, decisions like
whether there should be sun-
shine outside, whether there
shouldn't be sunshine out."
The group's entrance into Is-
rael follows a year of market re-
search, which they believe
found that the local hamburg-
er market will not be saturated
if they join McDonald's and the
veteran chain Burger Ranch.
Burger King plans to open in
smaller cities and alongside gas
stations as well as in heavily
traveled shopping malls, and
will offer kiosk-style smaller
outlets, devoted to take-away.
"Do you know how many
falafel stands you have here?"
said Mr. Tamir. "It's true, com-
petition will happen, and there
is nothing wrong with competi-
tion. As always happens, the
better places will stay. Shape
up, as they say, or ship out. I
believe the market has not de-
veloped enough to capacity.
There is another 100 percent of
capacity for fast-food restau-
rants to develop here." 0
