Ll-
he Contemporary
Crafts and Saxe Col-
lection is currently at
the Toldeo Museum of
Art, featuring 123 objects of
glass, clay, fiber, metal and
wood. Since Dorothy and
George Saxe of Menlo
Park, Calif., began collec-
ting in 1980, their works
capture the dramatic
changes that have occurred
within the craft movement.
"We fell in love with
studio glass 13 years ago and
have been collecting ever
since," said Mrs. Saxe. Mr.
and Mrs. Saxe are active
members in the San Fran-
cisco Jewish community. He
is past president of Con-
gregation Beth Am in Los
Altos Hills and a member of
the endowment committee of
the federation. She is an ac-
tive sisterhood member and
AIPAC supporter. They are
both ardent supporters of
Israel. The Saxes plan to
return 57 pieces to the
Toledo Museum to become a
part of the permanent collec-
tion.
Davira S. Taragin, cura-
tor of 19th and 20th century
glass at the Toledo Museum
and a Bingham Farms resi-
dent, curated the exhibit
which will travel to the
Saint Louis Art Museum,
Newport Harbor Art Muse-
urn, Renwick Gallery of the
National Museum of Ameri-
can Art and the Smithsonian
Institutions. The exhibition
and national tour are spon-
sored by Philip Morris Corn-
panies Inc. Bryon and
Dorothy Gerson of
Franklin also helped support
the exhibit.
