STYLE'S EXCITING LINEUP
OF MAGAZINES FOR 1994!
Four out of five Americans move them-
selves, according to Ryder, the world's largest
truck rental and leasing company.
To help you prepare for your move, Ryder
offers these suggestions for packing.
• Start saving newspapers a few weeks be-
fore you move. They can be used as cush-
ioning to wrap mirrors, artwork, dishes,
glasses and other fragile items.
• Start packing early, pack a little each day,
and pack one room at a time. You'll be glad
later if you use a marker to label you boxes
by room.
• Don't pack more in one box than you can
lift — usually about 30 pounds. Label appro-
priate boxes "fragile" as you pack them.
• Use your bureau drawers to pack items
like clocks and picture frames, wrapped in
small garments, such as socks and T-shirts.
• Pack essential large appliances last since
you'll be using them until the last day. Don't
forget to defrost and empty your refrigerator
and freezer, and drain the water from your
washing machine.
• Don't pack paint, alcohol, lighter fluid or
any other flammable liquids since these items
may be unsafe to move, and many states pro-
Inbit their transportation. Empty gasoline from
your lawn mower and other light-duty en-
gines.
Ryder advises that a typical two-bedroom
home requires about 35 boxes of various
sizes. When properly loaded, a 12-foot truck
can hold three or four average-size rooms of
furniture and other belongings. A 24-foot truck
will accommodate seven rooms or more.

TERRIFIC
TIEBACKS
If you're tired of tying back drapes with tas
sels or silk cords, try something new a length
of raffia, a necklace or a bandanna. ❑
BOOK CARE
Don't overlook books when you're dusting.
Ideally, hold the book closed while you vacu-
um the cover and page edges with a round-
brush attachment. You also can protect
beloved books in a closed, glass-fronted book-
case.

SMART SET J ERS
Exterior and interior paint are the most af-
fordable and profitable investments a home
seller can make. New light fixtures also are
a smart investment. ❑
