e rativ ram a The owner of Sybaris Gallery in Royal Oak enhances her home with a unique array of decorative arts. inda Ross and Arlene Selik named their Royal Oak art gallery Sybaris after an ancient Greek city known for luxury. Although the city no longer exists, the gallery flourishes. The owners recently expanded to a new 2,300-square-foot location on Third Street This gallery of decorative arts showcases works in fiber, wood, glass, metal and ceramics. 'We carry a quality level of decorative art," explains Selik. Many of the pieces are by internationally known artists and of museum quality; others are by regional artists and gradu- ates of Cranbrook and the Center for Creative Studies. The owners opened the gallery in 1989, realizing there was a need for a gallery with the type of studio arts not previously shown in this area. The gallery appeals not only to metro De- troiters, but has a national following. In their new location, Sybaris has incorporated exhibition space to include the work of noted jewelers, like Julie Anne Mi- halisin, who recently showed her silver and glass jewelry.
