Religion
For ABC?

Reports that ABC News is "ac-
tively pursuing" a religion cor-
respondent might offset
conclusions in the Fredom Fo-
rum study cited above that re-
ligious news has a "dim" chance
of getting on TV.
The reporter would serve the
network's major news pro-
grams, including its nightly
"World News Tonight."
The decision, which was an-
nounced at a meeting in late
September in Miami between
news division chiefs and affili-
ates, drew a standing ovation.
Apparently, anchor Peter Jen-
nings and other news man-
agers want better clarification
on how religious and political
issues intersect. They were par-
ticularly displeased about the
lack of historical information
on the Branch Davidian cult as
the tragedy in Waco, Texas, un-
folded earlier this year.

Israeli Wins
Disney Prize

Paris (JTA) — Oct. 5 was a
lucky day at EuroDisney for
Ya'akov Perlmuter.
The Israeli tourist, along
with his wife, Meira, was
visiting the theme park near
the French capital when he
took part in an "Aladdin's
Magic Lamp Drawing."
It may not have been due
to the dramatic recent
changes in the Middle East
peace process, but the genie
of Aladdin's lamp fame liked
the Tel Aviv area resident
enough to name him
"Aladdin for a Day."
Along with the title came
the grand prize: a new
Renault car.
Ya'akov Perlmuter works
in a factory near Tel Aviv. It
was his wife's idea to visit
the Disney theme park dur-
ing their first trip to Paris.
"We didn't bring the chil-
dren this time," said his
wife. "They're going to be
excited when they hear
about the car."
Even more so since the
teen-age children of the cou-
lz, :e will soon be learning to
