Lester Pollack, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations; Malcolm Hoenlein, the umbrella group's executive vice chairman; Melvin Salberg, national chairman of the Anti-Defamation League; and Abraham Foxman, ADL's national director. According to Pollack, who served as the delegation's spokesman, Christopher said the peace process was movino- along, as demon- stratedby 6 the fact that •en- voy Dennis Ross was in the region. Pollack said Christopher also pledged the administra- tion would continue pushing Arab countries to end their economic boycott. The boycott affects both Israel and companies doing busi- ness with the Jewish state. The secretary expressed optimism that positive de- velopments would occur before the next Arab League meeting, where Arab coun- tries are possibly set to add more companies to the boycott list. On the topic of U.S. loan guarantees to Israel, the sec- retary said that the United States and Israel were try- ing to work out a way to redefine legislative re- quirements that resulted in the United States slapping a $437 million penalty on Israel's second installment of $2 billion in loan guar- antees. Under terms of legislation agreed to by the two coun- tries, the penalty reflects the amount Israel spent in Jew- ish settlements in the ad- ministered territories in the previous year. During the meeting, Christopher also expressed concern about Iran's support for terrorist activities. In addition, Pollack said, the four Jewish officials ex- pressed concern about Palestine Liberation Organ- ization statements that they feel undercut the peace pro- cess, including comments about the status of Jerusalem and about Pales- tinian statehood. Christopher said the ad- ministration had brought this issue to the attention of the PLO, and that the ad- ministration has not seen a continuation of such PLO statements recently. The issue of Israeli technology sales to China did not come up in either meeting, participants said. Participants in the morn- ing meeting did not com- ment on the specifics discussed. ❑ Delicious Post' cereals give you two great tastes your whole family will love.
